This Valentine’s Day, LGBT Community ‘Breaks Up’ with Hyatt Hotels

Hundreds of hotel workers, LGBTQ activists and OUT and Occupy coalition members rallied in front of the Hyatt Andaz in West Hollywood on Saturday, Feb. 11 to “break up” with Hyatt Hotels. Hyatt hotel workers and community allies stand together in the fight for equal rights and fair working conditions at Hyatt Hotels.

“The price of a good night’s sleep should not mean breaking the backs of hotel workers in the Hyatt chain. Fair wages, safe conditions, and respect for all workers are important to gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and transgendered people. That’s why Out and Occupy wants hotel workers to know you have our deep respect and solidarity,” said Scott Tucker, former bar and restaurant worker, and Out and Occupy member.

Hyatt says it’s a friend to the LGBT community. But Hyatt workers’ injury rates are high, their wages are low, and immigrant women are exploited by Hyatt’s housekeeping subcontractors. These practices do not demonstrate a commitment to true equality.
