My name is Jacqueline Ammoah, and I’ve been a housekeeper at the Hyatt McCormick Place for 10 years. I am a single mother of five children. Within two months of my first year at Hyatt, I slipped on the floor and fractured three ribs. Before I was sent to the hospital I had to take a drug test, a breathalyzer test, and write a report on what I could have done better next time to not get injured. When I came back to work, I was given a brush and cleaner to scrub the elevators on my hands and knees. I am not the only housekeeper who has gotten injured at work. Before we start our day, there is always a line at the drinking fountain for women to take their pain pills.
