My name is Maria Soto, and I have worked as a housekeeper at the non-union Grand Hyatt in San Antonio for over three years. I am a singled mother of two sons and originally from Mexico. I started working at the Grand Hyatt when they first opened. We were still cleaning the dust from construction. Today, they expect us to clean a room in 8 minutes. It’s impossible. Like many of the ladies who work here, I have been injured from rushing to clean rooms, slipping and falling, bumping into things, straining my back, and even cutting my hands on broken glass. When I came home, all I can do is take pain medication and go straight to sleep.
